Or maybe author’s just realize that women love their children more than men. Men are simply self-interested pieces of crap, but women really care, and therefore have so much more to lose.

Just once, I’d like to hear a story where the husband becomes unhinged in the face of the supernatural while his wife keeps it together.

There are a handful of stories I was made to read in high school that I still love – The Most Dangerous Game, The Lottery (well, that might have been college), Leiningen vs the Ants, To Build a Fire… Come to think of it, they’re all basically horror. Those stories had (still have) a lot of influence on the kind of stuff I liked to write.
