Broken Mirror Story Event 2010

Posted in Administrative, BMSE on May 7, 2010 by dunesteef

Between May 7th and June 7th, 2010, write a short story based on the following premise:
Story Chat
A CHILD IS PROCLAIMED KING (OR QUEEN), BUT IT TURNS OUT TO BE MORE THAN JUST A GAME.

This story can be any genre and of any length. However, our podcast usually buys Horror, Sci-Fi, and Fantasy stories, and we prefer stories longer than five hundred words.

A couple of rules:

  1. No multiple submissions, please. If you have more than one take on this idea, only send us the one you feel is best.
  2. Seriously, write the story between May 7th and June 7th, based on the idea we’ve presented. You can always rewrite an old story and present it as though it’s new, but if you do this, at least have the decency to lie about it.
  3. In the subject line of your email, mention that this is for the Broken Mirror Story Event (or the BMSE/BME).
  4. Even though the event ends on June 7th, we would rather get a complete, proofread story a couple of days late than a rushed story with typos and errors on June 5th.

Send the completed story in the body of an email to submissions(at)dunesteef.com (replacing the “at” with @. Thanks for participating and being a creative person!

Episode 47: The Broken Mirror Story Event, Part 2

Posted in Action, BMSE, Comedy, Drama, Horror, Josh Roseman, Liz Mierzejewski, Mystery, Science Fiction, Short Story, Wendy Cooper on September 29, 2009 by dunesteef

“Someone arrives in town, and discovers that everyone there is exactly the same.”

In this episode, we feature three different pieces on the above theme, by three different authors.

In “Wrong Turn,” a traveling family encounters a world that could only exist in Wendy Cooper’s imagination. Or could it?

In “Where Once Your Soul Dwelled” by Liz Mierzejewski, Mike has the misfortune of stopping for gas in the wrong little town, running into an unfriendly bunch of . . . twins? bloopers

In “27 Jennifers” Josh Roseman tells of a young woman who is considered all-too replaceable by her demanding husband Michael.

Also, Rish and Big open the doors to next month’s story contest.

Special thanks to Liz Mierzejewski, and Dani Cutler for lending their voices to today’s show.

“Someone arrives in town, and discovers that everyone there is exactly the same.”

In this episode, we feature three different pieces on the above theme, by three different authors.

In “The Return,” Kevin Anderson interprets the subject in verse.

In “Scriptopia,” Michael A. Kechula tells of a visit to a strange place, where everyone is a writer, but Kevin would decidedly not be welcome.

In “Chemo: The Town of Golden Woods” by J.M. Perkins, an elite team of trained agents is sent into a little town, in search of the previous team that went in . . . and didn’t report back. bloopers

Broken Mirror Story Event Update

Posted in Administrative, BMSE on April 30, 2009 by dunesteef

Hey folks, Big and I have been blown away by the response to this story contest/event/challenge. We’ve had many submit their stories long before the deadline (indeed, more than participated in the October Scary Story Event, which we hope means our listenership has expanded), while those who came up with this activity are still toiling away.

We want everyone to do their best work, and so, we’ve extended the deadline to this Monday, May 4th (May the fourth be with you), giving people the weekend to put their finishing touches on the work. If you have already sent us your story, and want to take these extra few days to make revisions, simply send us the story a second time and we’ll replace the older tale with the new one.

Remember, please put “Broken Mirror Story Event,” “BMSE,” or “Broken Mirror” in the subject line.
