Episode 123: Save The Date by Joe Zieja

Posted in Comedy, Fantasy, Joe Zieja, Short Story on January 28, 2012 by dunesteef

When Angela’s husband died, she was devastated. She just couldn’t stop dwelling on her pain, until a friend gave her a book to help distract her. Working her way through the hobbies in the book, she made it to “calendar keeping,” and that’s where it all went horribly wrong. Never buy a calendar from a goth chick!

Afterward, Big and Rish try to explain why this episode is so late, and talk about calendars and record-keeping (sounds fascinating, I know). Also, some kind of announcement is made in there somewhere.

Special thanks to Kenn Crawford for producing today’s story; R.E. Chambliss, Ryan E. Stevenson, and Cheyenne Amero for lending their voices to today’s episode; and Melissa Hills for providing the episode art.

Episode 112: Death And Michelle Jenkins by Christopher Munroe

Posted in Christopher Munroe, Comedy, Fantasy, Horror, Short Story on September 24, 2011 by dunesteef

outtakes

Michelle’s mother and father aren’t quite sure about their daughter’s most recent choice in her love life. Sure, the kid with the Mohawk and the sternum piercing was not what they’d hoped for, but now she’s going out with The Grim Reaper?

Afterward, Big and Rish talk a bit about death. Their conversation becomes totally predictable in the end. Heck, I’ll bet they end with thanking people and then signing off.

It starts with Ogopogo. Then, the floodgates are opened, and a deluge of monsters from all parts of Canada appear, heading for…Winnipeg? What will Canada do?

Afterward, Big talks respectfully about Canada. Rish does not. And do the Dunesteef hosts believe in such things as Ogopogo, Sasquatches, and Manipogo?

Catastrophe Baker. The toughest, meanest, proudest, strongest, fastest, smoothest man in any room. No one in the galaxy is better with a swinging fist. Or a swinging woman. In this week’s adventure, Catastrophe is in a race against time to retrieve a priceless canticle…whatever that is.

Episode 91: The Invisible Kingdom by Mark L. S. Stone

Posted in Comedy, Fantasy, Mark L. S. Stone, Short Story on January 23, 2011 by dunesteef

When Ben is accosted by a crazy man insisting that Ben is the heir to a far-off, magical land, he shrugs it off as the sort of thing you experience riding public transit in Los Angeles (of course, this could just be Rish’s experience talking). But when another stranger claims the same thing, he begins to worry.

Afterward, Big and Rish talk about being “The Chosen One,” which devolves into superhero talk. Also, they make their listeners an offer that hopefully some won’t refuse, and discover that everybody wants a bosom for a pillow.

Happy Halloween, boys and ghouls. It’s a bonus episode for the holiday season!

A father is awakened by the frightened cries of his child. Will he allay the boy’s fears and get a little sleep? outtakes

Afterward, Big and Rish talk about the failed initial intention of this story, and give a sort of state of the podcast address. If you’re good, there will be no singing.

Oh, and by the way, it’s coming down to the wire. Finish up those OSSE Stories. We can’t wait to see them.

Posted in Comedy, Edward McKeown, Science Fiction, Short Story on September 4, 2010 by dunesteef

Tars Bokara has the unenviable task of seeking out the unlikely location of the long-lost planet Earth. When he finds it, he discovers a thriving business covering the entire world, with employees eager to please. Want to take a guess what their hours are?

Also, Rish talks (and talks and talks) about his recent trip to Comic-Con. Romance, frustration, and murder attempts abounded, apparently. Somewhere in all this, Big tells him why the show’s never had a Parsec nomination.
